Bushy Asparagus Asparagus aethiopicus, is an Aotea High Risk Weed.
Originally from South Africa and once a popular garden ornamental, it is now jumping the fence from the pot plant and forming dense infestations, which excludes native vegetation. It has long-lived tubers that resprout, and seeds that can be widely distributed by birds. It loves to invade low-growing habitats and dune vegetation, which is a problem for Aotea as we have some real treasures in that space.
If you see Bushy Asparagus, please report it to Auckland Council or Envirokiwi team.
