Nestled right on the waterfront of the sheltered natural harbour of Port Fitzroy, Akapoua campground is the perfect base for kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, fishing and hiking. Surrounded in Pohutakawa trees and beautiful views over the harbour, great for families and boaties.

With access just down the road to one of the many entrance points of the Aotea Track via the Forest Road track, along with many short walks also in the area.

The waterfront is rocky and donned with shells, so please be careful and wear adequate footwear.

The endangered Pateke (Brown Teal) are regular visitors, so please watch out driving at night.

Fires are not permitted at any time.
Dogs are not permitted at any DoC campgrounds.
