Information
Reach the end of Cape Barrier Road, park up and follow the marked track to Johnson’s Bay. There is a sign that says private access, park up before this and walk past the sign to find the trail. After Johnson’s bay the trail then heads up to the right winding up the mountain to Ruahine. It stops at a great view point. Note it is private land from their on.
Whalers Lookout is 30 minutes return from the car park. From the the southern-most point on the Barrier, you’ll have a good chance of spotting Brydes Whales.
